Welcome to the Stockton Growing Well Growing Healthy Service

What is Growing Well Growing Healthy?

Growing Well Growing Healthy (GWGH) is an exclusive free service in Stockton-on-Tees which supports families to achieve and sustain a healthier lifestyle.

Our team are here to support children, young people, and their families to make healthy habits part of everyday life. We aim to help children, young people and their families make simple changes that are easy to stick with but make a positive difference to their lifestyle.

The GWGH team is made up of Lifestyle Practitioners from a wide range of backgrounds and experience including nutrition, sports science, teaching, public health and so much more!

What do we do?

GWGH provides tailored programs to help families adopt healthier habits. Programmes are delivered by the Lifestyle Practitioners to meet the needs of the children, young people and families they are working alongside.

Support can be offered in the following forms:

121

This is can be delivered within the family home or within community venues where required. Each child is allocated a Lifestyle Practitioner who will complete a full assessment to determine the needs of each individual child. From here, a personalised programme is developed and delivered on a week by week basis. 121 intervention lasts a minimum of 6 weeks but may be offered over a longer period of up to 8 weeks.

Groups

This is a 6 week curriculum based programme which uses active learning to deliver fun and interactive sessions focusing on learning to make healthier lifestyle choices.

Digital

This is a self directed but supported programme. We will support you to use our digital resources to make small and sustainable lifestyle changes. You will also receive regular 6 weekly check ins with your allocated Lifestyle Practitioner.

Emotional Resilience

Working alongside our Lifestyle Practitioners, our experienced Emotional Resilience Practitioner supports children and young people who are struggling to understand and manage their emotions. Our Emotional Resilience Practitioner focuses on offering low level interventions to children experiencing a range of difficulties including: Anxiety, Low Mood, Stress, Anger and Low Self Confidence. The role of our Emotional Resilience Practitioner is to provide tailored emotional wellbeing support for children and young people whose emotions, confidence or coping skills are impacting on their ability to implement and maintain healthier lifestyle changes. Working alongside our Lifestyle Practitioners allows a holistic approach to health and wellbeing to be offered which supports behaviour change goals.

Depending on the age and the needs of the child, our Emotional Resilience Practitioner may work with the parent or guardian to develop strategies to support their child’s emotional wellbeing rather than working directly with the child. In all cases our practitioner will discuss this with you and tailor the support package to best meet the needs of your child or young person.
